Foam Sculptor Extraordinaire

I’ve recently been in contact with Ian Greeb, artist and fantastic sculptor of soft foam, and just had to share some of his work with everyone here on Puppet Buzz. Ian’s creations are entirely sculpted from blocks of soft foam and yet, as you can see, incredibly detailed. I’ve always been a fan of an [...]

Martin Granger Marionettes

Personally, I’m a “hand puppet guy”, but I never get tired of watching great marionette tricks. I don’t know very much about the Grangers (the puppeteers in the video), but I do know that to get a marionette figure to actually walk, one foot in front of the other, takes a genius “behind the strings”. [...]

“The Purple-Necked, Black Bearded Blatch” with Full Size Pattern Download

This little nugget of puppety goodness, though its been in circulation on the web for a while, recently resurfaced over at PuppetBuilding.com. The article was originally published in a 1969 issue of Women’s Day Magazine and includes a play, The Purple-Necked, Black Bearded Blatch, written by Jerry Juhl, and patterns and instructions for four puppets, [...]

Great Vids from The Monkey Boys

Monkey Boys Productions, working from designs by James Wojtal, built these seven puppets for a TV commercial for Mexican Televison. The above video is a movement test filmed during the build. What I thought was especially cool, and should be noted, about the puppetry in the clip, was that each animal has its own unique [...]

New Character Joins the Wippets!

The Wippets just introduced a new character to join their cast of puppets. The new character was built by the very talented Jarrod Boutcher! I think this new character is a perfect example of excellent character/puppet design by Ron and, of course, a beautiful follow through by Jarrod. Take a look at the Wippets Blog [...]
